Iguana Island in Turks and Caicos

Iguana Island in Turks and Caicos, also known as Little Water Cay, is a popular destination for excursions.

Home to the endangered rock iguana, this small island is a nature preserve managed by the Turks and Caicos National Trust that features boardwalks visitors can use to travel around and see the iguanas without disturbing them. There is also a welcome center, and guides are usually available.

The rock iguana (Cyclura carinata) used to be found all throughout the various islands of the Turks and Caicos, but now can only be found on Iguana Island and Big Ambergris Cay.

It’s important not to feed, touch, or bother the iguanas, or step off the trails.

There is an admission fee ($20 per trail as of 2025).

It takes about two to three hours to visit Iguana Island, which you can do via boat—either your own, a charter, or a tour. There are plenty of Iguana Island tours you can book, many of which also include visits to other islands, snorkeling, and more.

If you’re staying at Beaches Turks & Caicos, you can book an excursion through Island Routes (for an extra cost) that includes snorkeling as well as visiting the island, an excursion that visits the island via clear kayak, or an excursion that combines touring Iguana Island with a conch cooking class.

You can also kayak over from the Blue Haven Marina on Providenciales, but you’ll need to be able to navigate the currents in the water.
